Dear Daddy,
An important milestone happens this week: I am now viable. In other words, I have a very good chance of survival, with medical help, if I was born right now. Nevertheless, with every day that passes, my lungs mature a little more and my chances of survival get better.
Daddy, turn on the radio and sway to the music. With my sense of movement well developed now, I can feel you and mommy dance. And now that I am more than 12 inches long (about a foot long) and weighs over a pound (the size of an ear of corn) you may be able to see me squirm underneath mommy’s clothes. I gained nearly ¼ pound since last week. Blood vessels in my lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that my increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing me for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as Abby’s voice probably won't faze me when I hear it outside the womb.
Go shopping! Now that I have a good chance of surviving in the big wide world, it's time to put your superstitions aside and prepare for her arrival. By late pregnancy, mommy will feel too huge for hardcore shopping, so get started now.
Wow Daddy, did you know that my eyelids will open properly around now, and I'll begin to experience rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the state associated with dreaming. I can dream!
Love ya,
Three
